Man shot while reportedly trying to buy ring in Little River area, cops say

A 34-year-old man was flown to a Grand Strand hospital by helicopter from suffering a gunshot wound over the weekend while reportedly trying to buy a ring in Little River, according to police.

Horry County officers were called about 8 p.m. Sunday to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center emergency room after the gunshot victim was flown there from a Loris hospital.

Police were told the 34-year-old male victim was shot while meeting someone at a Little River strip mall to buy a ring from the “Offer Up” website, according to a police report.

Police spoke with the victim’s fiance at the hospital, who told them the victim informed her the transaction was going bad, and that he tried to snatch the money back from the seller’s hand. She said the victim turned to run and was shot in the back and arm area.

The victim eventually went to the hospital for treatment after his fiance convinced him to go, the report states. Police noted the victim and his fiance came to Horry County from the Raleigh, North Carolina area to visit his family and for the fiance to attend a Christmas party in Myrtle Beach.

“She does state that he is a heavy drug user, using heroin,” according to the report.

Krystal Dotson, Horry County police spokeswoman, said the investigation is ongoing. No arrests were made as of Monday morning.

Horry County police also continue to investigate a separate shooting incident from the weekend that happened at a Conway area hotel.
