Trail of blood discovered at Conway-area hotel, but no victims found, cops say

Horry County police are investigating a shooting at a hotel in the Conway area over the weekend, according to Krystal Dotson, Horry County police spokeswoman.

The incident involved Horry County officers discovering a trail of blood at the Crossroads Inn and Suites at 2376 E. U.S. 501, early Sunday, an incident report states.

Officers were called there about 1:15 a.m. in reference to a shooting, and met with a night manager when they arrived, who told police a guest reported hearing gunshots ring out from one of the rooms and saw three men jump into a blue van.

A man also told police he saw a trail of blood then called them. Officers noted they found blood on both beds in the room, but no victims and no one inside.

Police told dispatchers to contact area hospitals to be on the lookout for a victim with a gunshot wound.

Officers found a couple of shell casings inside the room, along with marijuana remnants scattered on the floor and digital scales on a nightstand, the report states.

Police reviewed some video surveillance they said showed two people leave the room and get into a blue van. A group of men also go into the room for a few minutes, and then three men exit the room and head to the back parking lot where they get into a blue van and leave the area, officers said. Two other men then flee the area in a white vehicle, according to the report.

While police were investigating a separate incident, officers learned that a man told a family member his friend’s finger was recently shot during a drug deal, according to the report, which also states the man said the gunshot victim didn’t go to the hospital because he has active warrants.

Krystal Dotson, Horry County police spokeswoman, said the investigation is still ongoing, and detectives are working to solve the case.

No arrests were made as of Monday morning, she said.

Officers are investigating a separate incident from the weekend involving an attempted murder that appears unrelated to the shooting at the hotel. That investigation remains active as well, Dotson said.
