An Andrews man was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison and must register as a sex offender after he pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a 12-year-old, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Tyrone Brunson, 32, of Cherry Street pleaded guilty in March to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor before Circuit Court Judge Eugene C. Griffith Jr., according to a news release from the solicitor’s office issued last week.
Brunson must serve 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for release.
Officers with Andrews police were told that on Aug. 6, 2013, the child was sexually assaulted, according to the release. Brunson gave a written statement to police admitting to the sexual assault and asked the child’s family for forgiveness.
