The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of another scam artist claiming to be a deputy demanding money from people.

“Scam artists are back at it,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post Thursday. “An unknown individual is calling and representing themselves as a Deputy Green with the Warrants Office.”

Authorities say the caller is demanding money for failure to report to jury duty and threatening to arrest people if the fine is not paid.

In October, HCSO warned residents of a similar caller who was claiming to be a sergeant with the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office reminds that they will never call anyone demanding money over the phone and threaten to arrest you.

If you receive a call like this, call HCSO at 843-915-5450 to verify the identity of any of their deputies.
