6 suspects arrested, 5 guns and 24 grams of crack seized after armed robbery
Officers seized five handguns and arrested six people in connection with an armed robbery reported Wednesday evening, according to a release from Capt. Joey Crosby of the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Crosby said officers were called to Sandygate Apartments at 1101 Osceola Dr. for a reported armed robbery around 5 p.m.
“Officers immediately responded to the scene and based on the information collected by dispatchers and officers, suspects were located quickly,” Crosby said.
Police saw the suspects traveling in a white Jeep and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects abandoned the Jeep and fled on foot, he said. “With the assistance of (a) K9, all suspects were located and detained.”
The Jeep had been reported stolen out of Horry County jurisdiction, Crosby said.
The four suspects arrested Wednesday night were identified as Quashaun Bromell, Akeem Sherman, Raheem Williams and Issiah Gaskins, but Crosby said that more people were believed to be involved.
Officers initiated a traffic stop on a gold Camry “and deployed a K9 to conduct a vehicle sniff, which resulted in a positive alert for the odor of drugs,” Crosby said. “During a search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 24 grams of crack cocaine, and a stolen Glock 43 handgun.”
The gun, reported stolen out of Georgetown, had an extended magazine with 12 rounds and another bullet in the chamber, police noted in a report.
Two people in the car, identified as Shyla McCray and Shar-ah McCray, were arrested and transported to the Myrtle Beach Jail, Crosby said.
Another man was seen fleeing the McCrays’ home when police arrived with a warrant to search for more drugs, but none were found, according to the report.
Bromwell, Sherman, Williams and Gaskins were each charged with four counts of armed robbery, four counts of kidnapping, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and resisting arrest. Sherman was also charged with possession of marijuana and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Bromwell was also charged with possessing marijuana, according to the release.
The McCrays were charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of a stolen firearm, the release states.
As the investigation continues, additional arrests may be forthcoming, Crosby said.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department will request a review of the investigation by the ATF to determine if any of the charges will be adopted at the federal level, according to the release.
