A 20-year-old man called Myrtle Beach police when he discovered he got fake money from a woman in exchange for his Xbox gaming console.
The man told police Monday night he created a Facebook post advertising his Xbox One-S Home Theater edition console for for sale at $200.
The suspect messaged the victim under what police said was determined to be an alias, and the two agreed to meet in a Socastee Boulevard store parking lot.
The man met with the woman as planned, and she hurried away after the exchange, which made the victim suspicious.
He took hte money to a nearby store to check it, and each of the $20 bills and a $5 bill were found to be fake after a store employee money used a marker that tests whether money is counterfeit, the report states.
The bills also lacked watermarks and other features, like raised printing, that real bills have, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the report.
