Man charged with attempted murder and kidnapping released from jail on $50,000 bond

A North Myrtle Beach man charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after choking a woman with a belt, attacking her with an oyster knife, and eating fish from her fish tank, was released Friday from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $50,000 bond, according to jail records.

Charles Clay Jackson, 44, is charged with attempted murder in the assault of a 43-year-old woman in North Myrtle Beach, according to authorities.

Jackson was also charged with kidnapping, police said.

Jackson’s was held on $30,000 bond for the attempted murder charge and a $20,000 bond in connection with the kidnapping charge.

The victim told police that Jackson, her former boyfriend, had come to her home to celebrate his victory in a recent court case and he appeared intoxicated, according to the report. The victim said Jackson went outside to smoke a cigarette and when he returned he was upset.

The victim said she asked Jackson to leave, but he attacked her and put a belt around her neck until she passed out, according to the report. The victim said Jackson tied her up and continued to assault her.

The victim said Jackson threatened to kill her with an oyster knife and he also ate some fish from her fish tank, according to the report. Jackson then became apologetic and the victim was able to go to a neighbor’s house and call 911. Police arrested Jackson hours later.

The victim had cuts to her chest and other signs of injuries from the assault, according to the report. Police found Jackson sitting on the rear steps of the apartment and claimed he was sleeping when the woman attacked him.
