Store job applicant took patron’s wallet, charged more than $600 to credit cards
A woman applying for a job at a Rite Aid pharmacy stole a wallet from a store counter, which was accidentally left behind by a patron, and charged more than $600 to the victim’s card credits, according to a police report.
Police were called about 4 p.m. Tuesday to Rite Aid at 2901 N. Ocean Blvd., where a 36-year-old man reported the incident, authorities said.
The victim told police he accidentally left his wallet behind on the store counter near a cashier about 3 p.m.. The victim returned to the store about 10 minutes later, but it was not on the counter, police said.
The store manager reviewed security footage and saw someone take the wallet from the counter and put it in her purse then leave the store.
The store manager told police the alleged thief had just filled out a job application to work at the store. Police matched the suspect’s name and home address to the woman seen in the security footage, authorities said.
Officers said someone charged about $614 to two of the victim’s seven missing credit cards.
Police are investigating.
