Victim in superblock shooting asks court to drop charges against man who shot him

The case against a Myrtle Beach man accused of shooting a former business partner in a fight over money in the superblock two years ago has ended with a dismissal from the court.

Shai David was charged with attempted murder and a weapon violation after shooting Jack Isiah Rabon in November 2015, but he claimed he acted in self defense when he fired at Rabon after, he said, Rabon attacked him.

Rabon - who faces his own assault charges from a road rage incident earlier this year - asked the court to drop the charges against David, 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said on Monday.

“Rabon requested that they be dismissed and said he wouldn’t be a witness anymore” for the case, Richardson said.

The case was dropped on Oct. 30.

According to evidence presented in a "stand your ground" hearing on David’s charges in February, David was at the superblock to collect rent from his tenants when he saw Rabon come "out of nowhere." David told police at the scene that he activated his body camera.

"I got you!" David screamed in the footage as another man, identified as Rabon is heard demanding money. "I got the money, please!" David screamed again as a struggle ensued.

Five shots, spanning 17 seconds, were heard on David's footage of the encounter.

One of the shots grazed Rabon's head, according to Rabon's testimony.

Myrtle Beach police Officer Matthew Ammons testified he found Rabon lying in a pool of blood outside a superblock business.

Rabon testified that he was on life support for about three days at the hospital after the shooting.

Rabon was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and battery and multiple traffic violations after police say he attacked a group of teenagers near Coastal Grand Mall on Sept. 23. That case is still pending. A jury trial has been requested.
