A man was sentenced to 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to being involved in an armed robbery two years ago in Myrtle Beach, officials said.

John Johnson, 25, of Fayetteville, N.C., pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery and was sentenced to serve 18 years for each charge. The sentences will run concurrently and Johnson must serve 85 percent before he is eligible for parole.

Police first responded to the armed robbery Johnson was charged with committing on May 27, 2013. Officers arrived at the Sea Mist Motel at 309 12th Ave. S. in Myrtle Beach, where victims reported that three men held them at gunpoint and stole their wallets and a cellphone, according to the release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

A witness saw three men matching the description of the suspects running from the motel and leaving in a red Dodge Charger. The vehicle was stopped at the south end of Myrtle Beach, and the victims’ property and two guns were found.

The co-defendants in this case have either pleaded guilty or are awaiting trial.
