Man surrenders to police, charged with murder in connection with Georgetown shooting
A man wanted in connection with a fatal Georgetown shooting surrendered to police at the Georgetown County Jail on Friday, authorities said.
Dennis Cumbee, 23, was charged with murder and driving under suspension, according to jail records.
Police said he was taken into custody without incident after surrendering at 12 p.m. Friday.
Cumbee’s first court appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Cumbee was announced as a “person of interest” by Georgetown authorities on Tuesday following a shooting occurred about 8:30 that evening on Alex Alford Drive in Georgetown.
Tory Thomas, 27, of Front Street in Georgetown died from being shot, Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson said. Thomas was pronounced dead of his injuries at 8:54 p.m. Tuesday while being treated in the Georgetown Hospital emergency room.
