A broken window removed from a wall, messy apartment set scene of Halloween break-in

A broken window removed from a wall, an open glass sliding door and a messy apartment set the scene of a burglary reported Halloween night at a home on 38th Avenue North.

Two men in the apartment told Myrtle Beach police they returned home to their first floor unit around 7:15 p.m. to find their front door locked as usual. But, when they entered, they found an unusual scene, according to a police report.

“The couch cushions were laying on the floor,” the kitchen window and its screen were leaning against an outside wall and the kitchen drawers and a bathroom cabinet were open, the report stated.

An android watch on a kitchen counter was missing, along with a five two-dollar bills from a black case that held several twenty-dollar bills, residents told police.

A mattress was moved to the side in one of the bedrooms where items were scattered on the floor and a dresser had been rummaged through, police noted.

A Playstation 3 — that would have been visible from the outside through a sliding glass door — was missing from the room, one of the men told officers. The glass door was open when residents and police arrived, according to the report.

Other items listed at a total value of $100 were reported missing in the break-in, according to the report.

The burglary remains under investigation.
