Police follow blood trail after finding stabbing victim near downtown park
On Halloween night, Myrtle Beach police were flagged down by a 41-year-old man in the area near Chapin Memorial Park.
He stopped officers about 7 p.m. and was in the roadway on Chester Street with blood soaking through his jeans and told police someone stabbed him, according to the police report.
Authorities tried to take a closer look at the victim’s stab wound and help stop the bleeding as they waited for more officers to get there.
Police gave the victim first aid until EMS arrived and took him to the hospital. Police said the victim refused to give the names of the suspects.
Authorities followed an apparent trail of blood through Chapin Park, starting with where they found the victim and stretching back to Kings Highway. More blood was found from the park down Chester Street toward 14th Avenue North where it stopped, authorities said.
The victim said he was in the park with a male and female suspect when the male suspect just “snapped and stabbed him in the right leg with a knife,” according to the report. He told police the suspects then walked to a nearby gas station.
The victim said the assault helped about 30 minutes before police found him, and he refused to give the names of the suspect, officers said.
The victim was also “highly intoxicated” and “disorderly” with hospital staff, according to the report.
Officers noted they would serve warrants on a man and woman listed as suspects in the report.
