Beware of this caller in Horry County, they’re trying to scam you

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a scam artist who claims to be a sergeant and is demanding money from people.

The unknown individual is allegedly calling random people and representing themselves a “Sergeant Daniels with the Warrants Office,” a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office states.

The caller is demanding money for failure to report to jury duty and threatening to arrest people if they do not pay the fine, the post says.

Authorities say they will never call anyone and demand money over the phone and threaten to arrest you.

If you receive a phone call like this, the sheriff’s office asks that you call 843-915-5450 to verify the identity of any of their deputies.
