An officer from Myrtle Beach and Conway were recognized Wednesday for their efforts to enforce the state’s driving under the influence laws during a statewide ceremony.

Myrtle Beach’s Patrolman First Class Shon McCluskey was named officer of the year for departments with 101 or more officers, while Conway’s Officer William Britton was recognized as the rookie of the year, according to Lt. Kelley Hughes with the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

McCluskey was among five officers of the year based on the sizes of the police agencies. Officials noted he made 105 DUI arrests last year.

Britton was recognized for making 59 DUI arrests last year, Hughes said in the release about the 2014 Law Enforcement DUI Challenge ceremony.

State public safety officials also held drawings for agencies to win prizes and the Horry County Police Department received a digital in-car video system in a drawing, officials said.
