Horry County police arrested one person in connection with an armed robbery at a Kangaroo store last month.

Anthony Ferrari, 18, of Surfside Beach is charged with armed robbery and trespassing Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery on March 30 at the Kangaroo gas station on Glenns Bay Road in Surfside Beach. When officers arrived, the store clerk reported that a man who came into the store around 1:20 a.m. appeared suspicious.

The suspect moved around the store suspiciously, causing the clerk to drop money in the safe when he was not looking, according to a police report.

A customer familiar with the clerk entered the store, bought cigarettes and said hello to the suspect before leaving, police said. The suspect left the store with the customer, then re-entered wearing a mask, police said.

The suspect went behind the clerk’s counter and aimed a handgun at the clerk, police said. The suspect demanded money and cigarettes, then fled the store on foot, according to the report.

Police tracked down the customer who knew where the suspect worked, according to the report.

Ferrari was being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
