Man pepper sprays cashier before robbing Myrtle Beach gas station, police say

A man allegedly pepper-sprayed a cashier in the face then stole a cash register drawer with money inside at a Myrtle Beach gas station early Saturday.

When Myrtle Beach police arrived at Speedway located at 1845 Mr. Joe White Ave., a cashier told officers a man walked inside and “immediately started to spray her in the face” with pepper spray and demanded her to give him money, according to an incident report.

The woman said she closed the register drawer and walked around the corner as an attempt to get away from the man, but could not see due to the pepper spray, police said.

She told the officer she could hear the man “banging on the register and then heard a car peel out of the parking lot.”

According to police, the middle cash register drawer was stolen and loose change was on the floor. Around $200 in cash was inside the register.

Emergency medical services arrived and treated the woman for the pepper spray exposure.

Police say the suspect is a white man in his mid 20s to 30s and about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He was wearing jeans, a green t-shirt and has tattoos on his forearms.

He was seen driving a dark in color, newer model sedan, the report states.

The incident remains under investigation.
