Man reports armed robbery to Myrtle Beach police, gets arrested on drug charges

A man called police to report an armed robbery of his hotel room, but ended up being arrested on drug manufacturing charges after police say they smelled chemicals in the room.

John Samuel Adams, 43, is charged with the manufacturing and trafficking of methamphetamine, as well as simple possession of marijuana and possession of pills without a prescription. He also is charged with third-degree assault and battery.

Jason Michael Brown, 31, was arrested on armed robbery charges.

According to a Myrtle Beach police incident report, officers responded to 308 Second Ave. N. at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday for a reported armed robbery. Officers spoke with Adams who said he allowed Brown into his room when Brown pulled out a knife and stole $10 cash – one $5 bill and five $1 bills.

Officers spoke with Brown, who told police he was in Adams’ room trying to get money back for “weak narcotics” he purchased on Friday. He told police he traded a bag of hand tools for the drugs.

Brown told police he returned the remainder of the weak drugs to Adams and attempted to get his tools back. Brown said Adams gave him money but refused to return the tools. Brown told police that Adams chased him out of the room with a hammer. Witnesses also told police Adams chased Brown with a hammer, according to the report.

Police searched Brown, found a folding knife, as well as a $5 bill and five $1 bills, and arrested him on armed robbery charges.

Officers searched Adams and said they found about 6 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket. Officers also said they noticed a strong smell of ammonia while in the room and saw items used to manufacture methamphetamine.

The incident remains under investigation.
