Conway man charged in sexual assault of 9-year-old girl

A Conway man was charged in connection with a 9-year-old girl being sexually assaulted, Horry County police Lt. Raul Denis said.

Aubrey Darnell Ashley, 33, of Conway was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to jail records. Ashley remains jailed pending a bond hearing.

In an Horry County police report filed Oct. 14, officers learned a 9-year-old girl had reported to someone at school that Ashley had sexually assaulted her.

Detectives investigated the case and it resulted in Ashley’s arrest, Denis said.
