Arson, attempted murder possible in Loris mobile home fire

A mobile home fire in Loris has led to an arson and attempted murder investigation by the Horry County Police.

Officers responded to the fire at 1162 Bennett Loop in Loris around 7 p.m. Sunday and found the single-wide mobile home on fire. Two victims who were at the residence were discovered at a neighbor’s home.

One of the victims said that while watching television, she heard a noise in the living room, according to a police report. The victim said she saw where a beer bottle had been thrown through the window, and that another bottle came crashing through the window and that’s when the fire began.

A neighbor who saw the house on fire said he didn’t notice anyone in the area and that his dog usually barks if someone is around. He claimed the victims sometimes used their stove for warming their home.

However, he said another neighbor told him that he might have seen something suspicious.

The victims, who were transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, said they had used space heaters in the home and did not know of anyone who may wish to harm them or anyone else on the property.

A canine unit was called in to try to determine if accelerates were used, but did not find any around the home or on the porch. It was deemed to unsafe for the dog to enter the home.

The investigation by Horry County Police continues.
