Robinson pleads guilty to manslaughter in Angie Pipkin slaying
Randy Gale Robinson pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to voluntary manslaughter and obstruction of justice for the 2014 slaying of Angie Pipkin, according to the Horry County Clerk of Court’s office.
Sentencing is set to be held Monday at the Horry County Courthouse.
Pipkin, a 32-year-old mother of two, was reported missing on Jan. 16, 2014.
Authorities say Robinson, 49, killed Pipkin at his Sullivan Drive home in the Inlet Estates subdivision off S.C. 707. After her killing, authorities say Robinson dismembered her body and disposed of it in the Great Pee Dee River in Darlington County.
Some of Pipkin’s remains were found four months later in a Florence County wooded area at a private hunting camp about five miles south of the U.S. 76 bridge over the river.
Robinson was arrested in March 2014 and was charged with murder and obstruction of justice. His trial was slated to begin Monday.
Manslaughter is punishable by a sentence of no less than 2 years and no more than 30 years in prison, according to South Carolina law.
Administrative Judge Larry Hyman recused the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office from the case because an attorney who now works for the Solicitor's Office used to work for the Public Defender's Office, and was once involved with Robinson's case.
The 16th Circuit Solicitor's Office, which serves York and Union counties, is now handling Robinson's case, and a representative from the office said Solicitor Kevin Brackett, prosecutor on the case, could not comment on it until sentencing is completed next week.
