Second arrest made in alleged test-drive kidnapping
A second suspect was arrested in connection with a car test drive last week that Myrtle Beach police said involved the kidnapping, armed robbery, and assault of a 65-year-old man.
Jonathan Saxton Cannimore, Jr. was arrested in Rock Hill at about 2 a.m. Monday after police stopped him while he was riding a bicycle without a light, then discovered he was wanted out of Myrtle Beach in connection with the incident, police said.
Myrtle Beach officers were first notified about the incident when they found an injured man running down the middle of the street in handcuffs near Ninth Avenue South and Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach on the afternoon of Oct. 17, according to a Myrtle Beach police report.
The victim told officers two men came to the downtown Myrtle Beach car dealership while he was working and asked to take a car for a test drive, then kidnapped him.
The victim and the two men left in a black Volvo, which was parked at convenience store after the incident. Officers said they could see blood inside, according to the report.
The two men fled in opposite directions after the alleged crimes, police said.
Authorities found one of the men at a Food Lion parking lot on South Kings Highway and took him the Myrtle Beach Jail, the reports states.
Robert Michael Harris, 44, is charged with carjacking, assault/attempted murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Myrtle Beach Jail records.
The victim said the suspects told him they didn’t have their driver’s licenses with them when the came to the dealership. One suspect told the victim he just wanted to show the car to his wife who worked at Dillard’s, so the victim said he would take them there, the report said.
Once in the Dillard’s parking lot, the victim said he felt two guns on the back of his neck and that one of the men pulled a pistol from his backpack and pointed it at the victim’s face, police said.
One of the men then got into the driver’s seat and drove to different locations before stopping along Kings Highway, where the victim said his credit card was used at a cash station. The victim told police $51 and credit cards were also taken from him, a police report says.
The victim said the men choked him, but he said he was able to break away from their hold. One of the men then went into a store to buy rope and duct tape while the other drove to a nearby convenience store, police said. The victim was able to escape the car and find help, he told police.
Harris remained in the Myrtle Beach Jail on Tuesday and his bond had not been set.
Cannimore was in the process of being returned to Horry County from the Rock Hill area to face charges in connection with the incident on Tuesday, according to Lt. Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach police.
