A former Harveys Supermarket and Bi-Lo grocery store on Church Street in Conway has become an auto body shop.

The family-owned Rob’s Auto Body has moved from 2893 Church St. in Conway to the much larger location at 901 Church St.

Owner and operator Rob Geschlecht has been in the automotive repair business since 1980 and opened his own shop in 2008. The business includes his wife, Karen, sister Jeanne Mauro, and son, Ryan, who is the primary painter, and it outgrew its former 4,000-square-foot space.

“We needed to expand, it was just exploding,” said Mauro, a business administrator. “We just couldn’t do all the business in those two little buildings.”

The new location is 41,000 square feet, has more than a dozen bays and several lifts so work can be done on multiple cars simultaneously. It also has a new spray booth and open space that can fit up to about 64 cars indoors, where all work can be done in a climate-controlled setting.

“Basically the idea was to drive in broken and come out brand new,” Mauro said. “Everything gets done inside.”

Rob’s Auto Body regularly donates to community causes. Mauro said it gives $2,500 annually for Christmas gifts for children in need, donates food for Thanksgiving, gives to local sports teams, donates cars to organizations including fire departments for extrication practice, and does minor repair work for Coastal Carolina students, sometimes at no charge.

“We want to be a big part of the community,” Mauro said.

Rob’s Auto Body’s work is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle and the business offers free estimates.

It also has a daily 24-hour towing service available by calling 843-369-0178.

The business is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
