Darius Rucker video filmed in Conway released
A video filmed in Conway of Grammy award-winning singer Darius Rucker has been released.
The singer announced that he shot the video for his single “Homegrown Honey” during a concert in August.
Rucker told the concert crowd that he couldn’t think of a better place to film the video than South Carolina, then sang the song twice during the show so crews could get the best footage.
Brent Reser, social media and online marketing coordinator at Coastal Carolina University, helped set up filming that day and wound up with a cameo in the video, which was released Monday, Sept. 29.
“It was a long shoot, but the two seconds I got in that video made it worth it,” said Reser, who appears in the video at the 1:42 mark. “I texted a photo to my family and the first thing my brother asked me was how long it took to Photoshop that.
“I posted a picture to social media and I’m getting significantly more likes and comments than I do on a normal post.”
Scenes were filmed at the Rivertown Bistro in Conway, as well as at Coastal Carolina University before and during his sold-out concert at the HTC Center on Aug. 23.
One of the people sitting at the bar in the video is also enjoying his 15 seconds of fame. Lance Thompson, general manager at Ocean Lakes Family Campground, found out about the video through his wife, who works at CCU, and volunteered, thinking it would be a background role, not one in the centerpiece of the video.
“I expected all my footage to wind up on the cutting room floor,” Thompson said. “I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how much was left in. My email has been blowing up and there have been lots of text messages.
“The whole thing has been a lot of fun.”
Reser, who received a tweet from Daris Rucker’s account Monday alerting him the video had been released, was very pleased with how the video turned out.
“It’s definitely a source of pride for the university and really showcases Coastal Carolina University,” he said. “It’s a big deal an artist of Darius Rucker’s stature wanted to come here and shoot the video.
“The film team did a good job of capturing the Chanticleer spirit and the spirit of Coastal Carolina University. The HTC Center looks great and the students look good, too.”
