Volunteers: The Ocean Isle Museum Foundation, Inc. is seeking volunteers to work at the Museum of Coastal Carolina in Ocean Isle Beach and Ingram Planetarium in Sunset Beach. Donations: Home gardeners in Georgetown and Murrells Inlet areas can help the 150 rescued animals at SC CARES in Georgetown by donating excess garden produce at one of these two locations: Sweeties Chocolates, 707 Front St., Georgetown or EDR Industries, Inc., 4124 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet. Volunteers: Coastal Carolina University is in need of volunteers for water quality monitoring. Samples are taken the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Training is provided. Volunteers: Literacy Tutors are needed to work with young scholars in Freedom Readers After School Literacy Program. Students in grades K - 5 are welcome to participate in our one-on-one tutoring program. Tutors are trained in the skills needed to work effectively at keeping young scholars interested, motivated, and having fun as they learn. Freedom Readers meets weekly after school and during the summer, at various sites in Horry and Georgetown counties. Summer session is about to begin.
