Calabash (N.C.) resident Noorigian to retire from federal government
Aram J. Noorigian will officially retire Oct. 1 from the federal government as chief in the Coast Guard Reserve. He joined the Navy when he was 18, and served for four years before heading to the Seabees, and then the Coast Guard.
Retirement service was at Portsmouth, Va., on Aug. 15. He was awarded a shadow box with an American flag that had flown on a ship. He was on a sub tender, then a destroyer.
He received three awards: one was signed by President Barack Obama, presented with a Coast Guard commendation medal and certificate, a plaque from the Naval Engineering Department of Portsmouth, two medals and ribbons from the U.S. Coast Guard, and a certificate of retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as chief machinery technician.
He was the Sixth Exalted Ruler at the Calabash Elks Lodge in North Carolina, belongs to the American Legion and the VFW of Calabash. He is the operations manager at Broadway at the Beach.
He lives in the Village at Calabash.
