South Strand Optimist Club honors two members
The South Strand Optimist Club had its second annual Charter Night on Sept. 17 at the Hanser House Restaurant in Litchfield Beach. The purpose of the event was to highlight the accomplishments of the club’s second year and to recognize those members who dedicated their time, financial assistance, and extra efforts to recognize youth in our communities.
The entertainment was provided by the Waccamaw High School Choralaires.
At the event, President Marty Waltemyer identified all 10 programs that recognized the youth and those that assisted youth in our communities of the South Strand. Throughout the past year, the South Strand Optimist Club recognized 96 local children for their extra special efforts and provided, either through its’ sponsors or the South Carolina District, scholarships totaling $6,050.
The club wishes to thank all of its sponsors for their support through the year.
Waltemyer recognized two members as Optimists of the Year. They were: Rita Wissman and John Plesha. Each were presented with an “Optimist of the Year” plaque. Both of the Optimists of the Year were very invaluable for their leadership and effort to make the club as successful as it is.
The South Strand Optimist Club serves the Town of Surfside Beach, the communities of Burgess, St. James, Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, the Waccamaw Neck, and the city of Georgetown.
