VFW Calabash Post 7288 was packed the early evening of Aug. 22 for the Annual Post Pig-Pickin’ prepared by the Men’s Auxiliary. It all started at 3 a.m. when the pigs were placed into the cooker where they spend the next 12 hours. When done they were removed, taken to the kitchen for the pulling of the pork, put on a plate with sides and presented to the hungry diners. It’s always delectable and this year was no exception. The work of the Men’s Auxiliary at the Calabash VFW is also a sign of what can happen when a large contingent of volunteers ban together with the common goal of pleasing the taste buds.
