Artists win awards at Summer Regional Show
The award winners of the Summer Regional Show at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport, N.C., were announced recently.
Janet Rodgers took Best in Show for her painting “She Who Watches.” First place in the two-dimensional category went to Larry E. Schafer for his watercolor of the star of a recent boat show, “The Alice Bell.” Sharon Vinciguerra earned first place in the three-dimensional category for her hand-built “Figure 1.”
Claire Slinger won second place, 2-D, for her acrylic painting “Beach Music,” and Betsy Sellers took second in pottery for her “Untitled” work.
Third place went to Betty Garbarino, 2-D, for “The Flock” and to Penny Ormerod, 3-D, for “Vote!”
Susan Maurney earned the Miriam and Walt Pinkerton Award for her watercolor “Pears,” and the Sunny Young Memorial Award went to Jan Boland for a pastel painting “Figure 1.”
Toni Wilson’s oil painting of ballerinas, “Little Ducks All in a Row,” earned the Sally Massey Memorial Award, and Dick Staat’s watercolor of a lone boat, “Derelict,” took the Fred Fischer Memorial Award.
The Paula Lehr Memorial Award in pottery went to Joyce Grazetti for “Basket Maker,” and Yi Fenn Strickland took the Lynn and Harold Stanzlaus for an untitled piece.
Merit Awards went to Eloise Randolph for “The Gist of It”; Donna Ferrandino, “Ritual Bowl 1”; Susan Dade, “Mermaids and Pirates”; Ann Thompson, “Cottage Row”; and Mary Beth Johnson, 3-D untitled.
Wanda Cornelius earned an honorable mention for her watercolor “Wooden Boat,” along with Karen Masterson for “Reaching” and Loretta Miller for an untitled 3-D piece.
