Treasure hunters donate to help cafe with veterans’ meals

Submitted photo

The Grand Strand Treasure Hunters donated $600 July 2 to the Veterans Cafe and Grille run by Lou and Rhonda Mascherino to help veterans who are in dire situations. “No veteran will ever leave here hungry regardless of their ability to pay,” Lou said. “We have helped at least 100 veterans with our program.”

The program was started when a veteran came in and needed a meal. More than a year later, he came back and handed Lou $20 to pay it forward. Many of the locals and other veterans have also made donations.

The Grand Strand Treasure Hunters members collect coins found on the beach and then make a donation to a new charity every year. This year, the donation was to show their support and appreciation for our veterans on a local level.
