Horry couple sue the county for damage to their dock during Hurricane Florence

A Horry County couple are suing the county after their dock was damaged during Hurricane Florence.

Greg Barsnica and Jamie Barsnica claim their private dock was damaged after a county-owned dock broke away and crashed into it during flooding.

Around Sept. 22, 2018, the Old Reeves Ferry Dock detached from land and swept down the Waccamaw River, where it collided with the private dock causing significant damage, according to the suit.

The county owned dock is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department. The suit claims that days before the storm, neighbors notified Horry County that the Old Reeves Ferry Dock was loose and about to detach from the land.

Hurricane Florence passed through the Carolinas in September 2018 and dumped heavy rain on the area causing significant flooding for weeks.

The suit claims that the damage to the dock amounts to more than $7,500 and the couple wants the county to pay for it, plus damages and lawyer fees.
