North Myrtle Beach fire caused by HVAC unit
A fire at a North Myrtle Beach home Friday morning was caused by an accidential fire in the HVAC unit, according to officials.
North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling said Friday afternoon that the HVAC unit had been repaired about two weeks ago but the breaker tripped Friday morning and was reset. A short time after that smoke started coming from the ducts.
Firefighters responded to the call at 602 First Ave. S. around 10 a.m. and asked motorists to avoid the area due to emergency vehicles in the area, according to a Twitter post this morning from the department.
The greatest degree of damage was adjacent to the heat exchange and the fire spread to the floor joists above, said Dowling.
The tenant doesn’t require living assistance because the tenant was already in the process of moving from the rental home, according to Dowling.
