Miss South Carolina visits St. James Middle School

Submitted photo

Miss South Carolina Lanie Hudson visited St. James Middle School recently at the request of four eighth-grade students, with the help of their Social Studies teacher, Stephanie Shirley. The honors students are required to compete in the National History Day project, and the female students selected the Mrs. South Carolina and Miss South Carolina pageants as their topic.

The theme for the competition this year is Leadership and Legacy. Hudson, who spoke to the student body, highlighted Palmetto Pride, a statewide program aimed at curbing litter. She shared littering facts and recycling tips during her interactive presentation and also talked about her journey in the competition for the S.C. crown.

After Hudson’s presentation in the gym, she met with eighth-graders Taylor Sherer, Kia Miller, Brittany Adams and Logan Hierholzer to answer questions and talk about the focus of their collaborative project.
