Submitted photo

Shea Thomas, 18, of Pawleys Island, daughter of Dr. David and Kerrilynne Thomas, was recognized March 19 as the youngest member of the American Red Cross, Eastern South Carolina Chapter’s Humanitarian Circle. This special recognition society is for individuals and families who make a donation of $10,000 or more to ensure the Red Cross is there, whenever and wherever disasters strike. Thomas is a senior at Horry County Schools’ Academy for Arts, Sciences and Technology.

Thomas, as a member of the chapter’s Red Cross Rescue Racer program, raised a total of $10,852 for disaster relief. In addition to being named to the Humanitarian Circle, she was recognized as a top runner-up in the 2015 Prudential Spirit of the Community Awards in South Carolina and, based on her volunteer hours, qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The Red Cross presentation was made at an “Experience the Red Cross” event in Myrtle Beach where Kathryn Hoy Kaufman also represented the family of the late Mary Emily and Nelson Jackson as part of the Humanitarian Circle.
