Fashion show features vintage wedding attire | North Strand Roundup
Say the word “wedding,” and everyone has a memorable story to tell. Ladies Guild members at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach are telling a story through vintage attire at “A Wedding to Remember,” the Guild’s 3nd annual Vintage Fashion Show April 29. This fundraiser will benefit the Georgetown/Horry County Family Justice Center’s future domestic violence shelter.
Committee members were on hand to display a vintage wedding dress on loan for pictures from Bleu Boutique in Sunset Beach, N.C., which specializes in vintage wares and goods. The empire silhouette style satin floor-length gown with a lengthy train is preserved from the 1915-1920 era. A special feature is the neckline embedded with seed pearls. The gathered bodice, satin covered buttons that close the wrist-length sleeves and more than a dozen buttons that close up the back make this gown a unique example of wedding attire of that time.
Gloria Fanelli, chair of the event, says that the committee is concentrating on having every detail reflect a vintage wedding. Fashions will include bridesmaids, flower girl, mother of the bride, and mother of the groom.
Returning with the vintage fashions is Annie Weiland from The Way We Wore [CQ] in Hilton Head. About a dozen women will model the outfits she will bring to the show.
Luncheon, which Guild members will prepare, includes a plate of chicken, pasta and egg salad with fruit and mini croissant. Wedding cake is dessert.
“This is going to be a marvelous show,” Fanelli says. “I want people to come and enjoy the day. It’s been wonderful working with my committee to make this a perfect day, just like a wedding should be.”
Lynn Glair, who lined up the models for the show, agrees. “It’s been a pleasure working with these ladies to make this an eventful day.”
