Atlantic Beach Police Chief Tim Taylor says the weather forecast warning that Tropical Storm Bonnie is approaching the South Carolina coast isn’t likely to dampen the spirit of Bikefest.

Traffic through the tiny seaside village continued to build throughout Friday, and Taylor predicted it would be a larger crowd than last year.

“People will want to see what the weather does, but they will still try to make it,” Taylor said.

Meanwhile, the police chief is monitoring the weather reports and says he is staying in close contact with other law enforcement and emergency personnel assisting with this weekend’s event.

“We’re going to be prepared to deal with it so we can all be safe,” Taylor said. “I hope it doesn’t hit, though. Everyone is having a good time.”
