For those people who must go to the Myrtle Beach International Airport after 9 p.m. during holiday weekend, Ryan Betcher, an airport spokesman, said they need to remember how the traffic loop impacts travel to and from the airport.
“We had a few incidents where some passengers said they had some difficulty,” Betcher said Saturday of Friday night’s traffic loop enforcement.
Betcher suggested anyone traveling to or from the airport to remember their travel may be impeded.
“Give yourself plenty of time, get to know the loop, go to the Horry County website and plan out your route ahead of time,” Betcher said. “It is best to approach from the northbound lanes of U.S. 17 Bypass.”
The best way to get to the airport is to use U.S. 17 Bypass North to Harrelson Boulevard exit and follow Harrelson Boulevard to Jetport Road and the airport’s main entrance, officials said.
To leave the airport, officials said motorists should leave from Jetport road to south on Harrelson Boulevard to South Kings Highway.
Otherwise, no major incidents were reported at the airport Friday or Saturday.
Horry County officials also reported that by 2 p.m. Saturday there were about 40 incidents going on in the entire county with the majority along the coast. But overnight Friday, the volume increased to between 65 to 70 incidents at any one time with traffic and medical calls being the majority.
