The Socastee drawbridge at Dick Pond Road will remain closed each night through Wednesday as the final phases of mechanical repairs are completed.

The area will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Wednesday morning, according to S.C. Department of Transportation officials.

A gearbox is scheduled to arrive at the Socastee Bridge Monday night and will be placed back in the bridge structure, officials said. The final connections and replacement or sealing of the hatch within the roadway are scheduled for Tuesday night.

S.C. DOT officials anticipate resuming normal bridge operations at 7 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting and barring and unforeseen issues.

The project has been ongoing since late July.
