Officials hosting series of town hall meetings on hurricane preparedness
The Horry County Emergency Management Department is holding a series of meetings, starting Wednesday night, to ensure residents know which evacuation zone they live in as the historical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season approaches in September.
The first town hall meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Base Recreation Center at 800 Gabreski Lane in Myrtle Beach.
Officials will discuss evacuation zones as part of the “Know Your Zone” program, storm surge and other precautions residents can take if the Grand Strand is threatened by a hurricane.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials, the historic peak of hurricane season is Sept. 10.
The “Know Your Zone” program is a public education campaign designed to inform citizens and visitors about Horry County’s new hurricane evacuation zones and their vulnerability to storm surge, according to Horry County government’s website.
