Tax-free weekend draws from out of state
South Carolina’s tax-free weekend is drawing people from outside the state.
Most tax-exempt items are back-to-school supplies such as notebooks, pens, book bags, computers and clothes.
It’s the biggest shopping weekend of the year after Black Friday, said Lindsey Kueffner, the South Carolina Retail Association executive director.
Some states have it, some state’s don’t.

North Carolina doesn’t have a tax-free weekend this year, and on Friday some people crossed state lines into North Myrtle Beach to shop.
North Carolina resident Cindy McManus said she hadn’t specifically planned her shopping trip to the T.J. Maxx in North Myrtle Beach around the tax-free weekend, but was looking forward to the deals.

Lumberton, North Carolina, resident Raina Nagrampa said she was there shopping for school supplies with her family.
“You get a good deal, there’s good deals everywhere,” she said. “It takes about 40 minutes to get to a good shopping mall, so we just came here to get better deals, more stores.”

Dylan Mehring
At a Best Buy in Myrtle Beach, Pennsylvania resident Dylan Mehring was shopping for a laptop.
Mehring is on vacation with his family, and said it would be nice to buy a new laptop tax free.
He plans on going to Stevenson University in Maryland to study film, and said a laptop is essential.
“I’m looking for a laptop for college, and I figured the best time to look is now,” he said. “I’m going to be doing editing which is all digital nowadays so I’m going to need a nice Mac so I have access to Final Cut and all the Adobe software.”
