Meeting on Murrells Inlet dredging postponed

Thursday’s public meeting on a dredging project in Murrells Inlet will be postponed at least until next month.

The meeting is being moved because Georgetown County wants to receive all the possible bids before it presents information to the public, Georgetown County spokeswoman Jackie Broach said. The bid period ends Aug. 4, so the meeting will be held in the weeks after that date.

“It was decided that we just want to be able to give people a better idea of the cost,” Broach said.

She added that contractors are in high demand for dredging projects right now, which raises the possibility that the county may not receive many bids for the project. The Cherry Grove canals in North Myrtle Beach are being dredged this year for an estimated $13 million.

Broach said she did not know if the contractor would be chosen before the new date of the meeting, but it is possible.
