Public input for new Horry County school zones starts Tuesday

Parents will have a chance starting next week to weigh in on proposed attendance zone changes for three new Horry County schools.

The new Carolina Forest area middle school, a new middle school in Socastee and a new intermediate school in St. James are scheduled to open in the fall of 2017 and will result in several zoning changes.

Horry County School Planning Department staffers will be available during five public meetings to allow parents to voice their opinions and learn more about the proposed zoning changes in the Carolina Forest and Socastee areas.

Specific attendance areas affected are the Forestbrook Middle School attendance zone, the Ocean Bay Middle School attendance zone and the Socastee Elementary attendance zone.

The meetings:

Forestbrook Middle School

5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday

Forestbrook Elementary School

5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday

River Oaks Elementary School

5 - 7 p.m. Thursday. This meeting is for parents of students attending River Oaks Elementary School, River Oaks Middle School, Ocean Bay Elementary School and Ocean Bay Middle School.

Lakewood Elementary School

5 - 7 p.m. July 25

Socastee Elementary School

5 - 7 p.m. July 28,
