One of the three, a girl, was able to get out of the water on her own and was treated on the beach, according to Lt. Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach police.
Mikease McFarland was rescued by lifeguards and bystanders and CPR was performed on the beach before he was taken to the hospital.
The third, a 12-year-old boy, was lost in the water and has not yet been found.
McFarland was a student at Darlington High School and a member of the marching band.
Many of his fellow students have posted comments on Facebook saying McFarland was a good person with a love for music.
McFarland's great aunt said the family is just devastated beyond words at what has happened, but are thankful for all the support and prayers they've received in the community.
