Little River swing bridge back in service
The Little River swing bridge reopened Wednesday after being out of service for about three weeks for repairs.
The bridge, which had been in the open position, was expected to be back in service about 4:30 p.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The bridge along Sea Mountain Highway was built in the 1930s and was shut down June 2 when operators noticed some mechanical issues with the bridge’s six-ton gear box.
The bridge opens around 900 times per month to allow passage of boats on the Intracoastal Waterway, and was last renovated in 2005.
