What you need to know for the week ahead in Myrtle Beach
Sidney Moorer in court
The kidnapping trial for Sidney Moorer, charged in connection with the disappearance of Heather Elvis, will begin Monday with jury selection.
The presiding judge ruled last week to try Moorer's kidnapping and obstruction of justice charges separately. Moorer had faced a murder charge in the case but that was dropped earlier this year.
Jurors will be picked from a pool of 800 who received summons and questionnaires, about 650 more than usual because of the high-profile nature of the case.
Elvis, 20, was last seen in December 2013.
CCU pursuing College World Series title
The Coastal Carolina baseball team continues its quest for its first College World Series title this week in Omaha, Neb.
The Chanticleers, who made their debut in the double-elimination tournament Sunday night, play again Tuesday. Depending on Sunday night's outcome, Coastal will play at 5 p.m. (with a loss) in an elimination game or 9 p.m. (with a win) in a winner's bracket contest.
The Chants are paired up with Texas Tech and TCU in the bracket.
The championship game is slated for 3 p.m. Friday.
County to vote on AvCraft debt
The Horry County Council will take the first vote Tuesday to write off nearly $114,000 in unpaid rent and late fees from the now-bankrupt AvCraft Technical Services -- the first company brought in by the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corp. that received $1 million in county tax dollars to boost job creation.
