Enterprise Road reopens Friday ending detour nightmare
Enterprise Road will reopen at 5 a.m. Friday ending a nine-month closure that forced local residents and school buses to make significant detours around the ongoing construction of the Carolina Bays Parkway bridge crossing the Intracoastal Waterway.
The closure also frustrated business owners, as traffic off S.C. 707 turning onto Enterprise Road trying to get to the Waccatee Zoo, Osprey Marina and Waccamaw River Tours was re-routed to continue down S.C. 707 to Bay Road then back onto Enterprise Road. The detour also pushed more traffic through the intersection at Bay Road and S.C. 707.
The entire Carolina Bays Parkway, S.C. 31 construction project is ongoing, and not scheduled for completion until the summer of 2017.
The construction extends the terminus at S.C. 544 to S.C. 707 nearly four miles, and when completed, the $190 million project will include a mulit-lane freeway with a partial interchange at S.C. 544 and full interchange at S.C. 707, said Lisa Bourcier, Horry County spokeswoman.
