North Myrtle Beach crash involving police cars sends four to hospital

Three police officers and a woman were sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after they were involved in a three-car crash.

Two police cars were traveling north on U.S. 17 when they stopped for traffic just south of Main Street, said North Myrtle Beach city spokesman Pat Dowling.

A driver of a blue Cadillac hit the back of one North Myrtle Beach police car, which subsequently hit the back of another police car, according to Dowling.

North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Sgt. Russell Caudle, officer Kyle Smith, Lt. Corporal Bobby Hall and Newton were all taken to a hospital after Horry County EMS provided treatment at the scene.

Two officers were released from the hospital, but Dowling said he didn’t know the condition of the other officer and the woman.

Dowling said he doesn’t think the crash was intentional.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol Department is investigating.
