Mo-ped driver killed in Longs area crash
A mo-ped driver was killed after a vehicle struck the mo-ped from behind while traveling Wednesday night in the Longs area.
The crash happened about 10:25 p.m. on Tallwood Road, and the male mo-ped driver, whose identity has not yet been released, died at the scene from injuries, according to Tamara Willard, Horry County chief deputy coroner.
Both the mo-ped driver and the 21-year-old driver of a 2005 Chevrolet four-door vehicle were traveling east on Tallwood Road when the driver of the vehicle struck the back of the mo-ped, causing the crash, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol authorities.
The 21-year-old driver is charged with traveling too fast for conditions, highway patrol said.
The mo-ped driver’s identity will be released once family is notified, Willard said.
SCHP continues to investigate the incident.
