Horry County, which had the most traffic fatalities of all S.C. counties in 2015, is on pace to have as deadly a year on the roads in 2016.
Twenty-one people have died on the county’s highways and roads this year through Sunday, the same number of deaths at this point in 2015. Greenville County has the most fatalities this year with 26.
Georgetown County has had only one traffic fatality so far this year compared to six last year.
The state is trending downward in traffic deaths, with 302 so far this year compared to 321 during the same time in 2015.
The numbers are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight May 8.
