Cinco de Mayo celebration Thursday

Two places are claiming to have the best Cinco de Mayo on the beach.

On Thursday, the party at Bandito’s will go from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Entertainment all day on the beachfront stage and drink specialsas well as giveaways all day.

Fiesta del Burro Loco at 960 Frontage Road West is will have its annual BurroFest in the restaurant’s parking lot starting at 11 a.m. Thursday. Admission is free. There will be live music, outdoor games, beer trucks, food and drinks for purchase and more.

Mayfest on Main, music and beer fest Saturday

Mayfest on Main will take place on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. This event includes live music and other entertainment, food and craft vendors and a children’s area.

The city of Conway is holding its annual Rivertown Music & Craft Beer Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Conway. Admission is free. This event includes live music, a car show, vendors and craft beer tasting.

The annual Blessing of the Inlet celebration will be held at Belin United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. In addition to the Blessing of the Inlet, there will be food and craft vendors, kids’ activities, live entertainment and more.

Myrtle Waves open weekends to splash into season

Myrtle Waves Water Park will open for weekends this month:10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and May 30, Memorial Day.

The park, at U.S. 17 Bypass and Mr. Joe White Avenue (formerly 10th Avenue North) Extension in Myrtle Beach, then will open daily from June 4 through Aug. 14 – 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. (and until 9 p.m. Wednesdays) – and go back to weekends, Aug. 20-Sept. 5, to close the summer.

142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is Saturday

The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

The race will be broadcast on NBC at about 6:30 p.m. EST. The current favorite is a horse named Gun Runner. Post selection for the 20-horse race is Wednesday.

Mother’s Day is Sunday

Sunday marks the day people honor their mothers for Mother’s Day.

A traditional holiday, people tend to buy gifts or take their mother or mother-type figures out to a meal.
